Nuclear Power Generation as Part of a Greener Future Strategy
Nuclear power generation can reach record levels in 2025 as more countries invest in the sector to sustain the transition to a low-carbon global economy. Kazakhstan is among these countries and potentially the next key player in this energy development.
Kazakhstan has a unique opportunity to become a leader in nuclear power development. Our country already contributes significantly to the nuclear fuel supply as the world's largest uranium producer, with 33% of global output, according to recent stats by the World Nuclear Association published recently.
I believe Kazakhstan is positioned to meet the growing demand for clean energy. With our reserves and our experience in the energy and mining world, we can contribute to safer nuclear energy use. We are the largest supplier of uranium globally and are experts in optimizing energy sources to make the most of the future.
My country has been at the vanguard of changes in the energy and mining industries for three decades. Our potential in nuclear energy could undoubtedly support regional stability and energy security, as well as more partnerships with our neighboring countries.
Combined with renewable energies, nuclear power can help us achieve our 2060 carbon neutrality goals, reduce our heavy reliance on coal, and shift towards cleaner energy sources. It generates a large amount of energy from a small amount of fuel, whereas coal requires far more to produce the same power.
Nuclear power is a logical addition to diversifying the energy mix. It's generally considered a more beneficial energy option than coal. When we consider our green future, nuclear power can boost it by offering low-carbon, reliable energy that complements renewables like wind and solar.
Electric vehicles and energy storage drive demand for metals. Nuclear power offers a stable, low-carbon energy source for base-load energy needs. It also provides a low-carbon energy source for charging and, again, helps reduce the carbon footprint of EV cars.
Kazakhstan has the space and expertise to lead in nuclear safety innovations and serve as a model for emerging nuclear nations. As an investor and supporter of green energy, I believe this solution is a logical step toward a better future as long as we continue to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.
We must consider making nuclear power development sustainable by integrating advanced technology and effective waste management. As we realize atomic power's potential, we should also implement high environmental protection standards that align with our green future goals.
