US–Kazakhstan Deals Signal a New Era for Kazakhstan’s Global Economic Role

The deals signed yesterday between the United States and Kazakhstan are important: my view as an investor.

As an investor who has spent much of the last two decades dealing with the United States, and who appreciates the good relations between the US and Kazakhstan, this week's events seem structurally important to me.

Yesterday, November 6, an important delegation from our country traveled to Washington for high-level meetings, during which important agreements were signed that signal that our economic partnership is becoming increasingly solid.

As a result of this week's agreements, passengers on our main airline will soon be able to fly on one of 15 new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, and Cove Capital will work closely with Tau-Ken Samruk to develop major tungsten deposits in Northern Katpar and Upper Kairakty, with anticipated investment of about USD 1.1 billion and U.S. export-finance support of up to USD 900 million.

But there is much more. In the presence of President Tokayev, Kazakhstan's Minister of Industry and Construction Yersayin Nagaspayev and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Latnik signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of critical minerals.

As an investor, and as a Kazakh entrepreneur, I welcome these developments, so important for the collaboration between our two nations.

And I see two readings here.

First, these are not small projects or pilot projects. The aircraft deal could change the scale of connectivity for Kazakhstan, and the mining deal addresses strategic supply chains. We are talking about Kazakhstan playing a more important role in the world.

Second, I see a willingness on the part of our two countries, two continents, two critical markets, to work together improve our technological capacity, capital, and access to markets. The United States is and always will be an important partner for us.

For those of us investing with a medium- to long-term horizon, the message is clear: Kazakhstan is increasingly a larger node in global infrastructure, logistics, and resource networks aligned with major Western economies. We are a major regional power now.

This is very good news. Let's continue working to strengthen the ties between the United States, Kazakhstan, and Central Asia.
